Defenses, Justifications, Explanations – They Are All Excuses

default-16x9

Many people want to attend training. One of the biggest challenges that people have is getting their boss to say yes. Some will say that it is not in the budget. Some would say that there are no benefits from training. The biggest reason many companies do not want to provide their staff training is that they fear that the trainees will leave the company. Zig Ziglar, a motivational speaker, once said, “What’s worse than training your workers and losing them? Not training them and keeping them."

For those of you who need training AND you need a reason for your boss, this article is for you.

Why should we (computer) train our people?
Typically people will take a computer class because they need a new skill or they need in advance their current knowledge. So people are able to sit down with a book and teach themselves. Some will try to ‘self-teach’. The issue with both of these concepts is that their skill levels are not at the level of an instructor as they would like to believe.

Why employees need training:
Productivity – Employees are able to work more effectively. Most people are hired with certain skills when they accept the position. However, technology keeps advancing…shouldn’t the employees be doing the same?
Employee Loyalty – Employees view companies who invest in their knowledge care about their employees.

Benefits of Instructor Led Training
  • Feeding off of others – Someone might ask questions you may never have thought of
  • Real Life Situations – The instructor who is experienced in the subject as well as students may present real-world circumstance that not only needs to have an issue but also a resolution.
  • Hands-On Learning – The instructor is able to guide you through exercises, explain the processes and help direct you down the right path (in the case you did not realize that you have wondered off). A book cannot give you this comfort.
  • Peer Learning – One of the greatest benefits of a class is that there are times when you are able to see how your peers conceived the results that you did as well. Did they achieve a better or faster result? This is very common with Adobe and Microsoft classes.
Who will be teaching my (computer) class?
Our instructors are real-world experienced who are friendly easy to understand and most importantly…extremely patient.

How many students will be in my computer training classes?
This all depends on your company. We try to maximize the student count to twelve in order to ensure that each student is not limited on their learning experience.

What does Illume Training provide me when I walk out of the class?
  • CD-ROM – We provide our manuals electronically to be searchable and ‘green’
o   Student Manual
o   Workbook Manual & Exercise Files – Typically 15 hours of ‘homework’ to reinforce knowledge gained from the class
o   Skill Sharpeners & Case Studies
o   Course Outline
  • Email of instructor in the case there is a need for follow-up by the student
  • Quick Reference Sheet (pertaining to the level of course)
  • Post Test – Validate knowledge gained
