Hi,
I am writing a course on different types of learning - distance, online, blended etc. Does anyone have a clear definition for onine learning and another for elearning? Are they the same or different. I am coming across various answers!!
Thanks,

Two definition for e_learning depends upon your needs
1. If you only want to provide a fast and convenient channel for training and relative management, then the definition will be web based learning, that means put the contents on the web and deliver to your employee.
2. But, if you want to have a total solution for your training (keep your training curriculiums modify, and improve training efficiency and cost down the fees), then the definition will be to use all the media technology and “training methodology” into your training.
Above has two definition of e-learning for your reference.

Difference, what difference?
Janis,
I *suspect* some of the confusion may be due to the fact that “e” anything, as in “email” normally refers to “online”, but not necessarily so.
Having said that, I would suggest another possible point of view:
1. In theory at least, “online” usually means that you are currently linked to the web, so I would tend to interpret this as meaning that I was accessing a learning resource across the internet and in real time.
2. I would be less dogmatic about “elearning” which technically only means that my learning is served up electronically. In that case I might be online, or have downloaded my material from somewhere (on an intranet or the internet) so I can work offline whenever it suited me, or I may be using some other electronic medium such as a CD or DVD without any links at all beyond my own PC/laptop.
Hope this is of use
Be well
