Hi, I am looking for some help or ideas for a delegation activity which highlights the importance of this. I have between 30 - 45 minutes for the exercise. It is being aimed at a junior level of management in the retail sector. Appreciate your help.

Delegation
I remember on a CIPD course residential doing a good delegation exercise. I don’t have my notes to hand but as best as I can remember it we were split into groups of 3 or 4 and each group went to a table in the room. On each table was a different exercise with different instructions. We completed the exercise within a time frame and then moved onto the next table and so on until we had completed each exercise.
One exercise had really vague instructions – I think we were given a selection of seemingly unrelated items and simply told to organise them.
Another exercise was a really familiar task and we were give very specific instructions.
And so on.
Once each group had completed each task we were asked how we felt about the instructions – their clarity, helpfulness etc – and discussed how this related to people when you are delegating tasks to them and how you delegate.
