Derek is an individual and organisational learning consultant. His experience and development as a training and learning specialist spans 18 years and covers working as a direct trainer, a training manager and a business consultant. Before becoming freelance Derek's background included working in both public service and private sector organisations.
As a trainer Derek works particularly in the areas of interpersonal skills training and communication skills. Current areas of consultancy include working with organisations seeking to establish flexible and credible learning systems and cultures. In particular through helping managers to learn from experience through using the management standards to provide a framework for discussion and development in Learning Networks. This approach makes optimum use of appropriate open learning materials, work-based experiences and naturally occurring mentorship relationships.
