I would like to know whether other companies provide IT inductions to new joiners, how long they take and the kind of information covered. Are they compulsory? Are they provided separately or as part of a general induction?
Thanks.

IT Inductions
I provide a short IT induction for our Head Office staff and Area Managers. Prior to the new starter joining I get the line manager to complete a simple form which details their IT skills and needs for the role they are about to undertake. I then give them about 2 hours of my time (depending on need) to go through a quick overview of the IT function within the organisation and an overview of applications they will need. Then we plan an IT training schedule for the new starter to complete within 3 months of joining.

Induction Training
Frances
Key Training Solutions provide a number of Induction Training Services. These courses run for one member of staff upto eight at any one time. The courses are designed around their IT needs and that of the business.
The training is generally run with Microsoft, Lotus or SAP applications but can be extended to bespoke applications if time is given to develop courses.
We also run a number of Graduate Training Schemes, public scheduled courses and Technology Based Training.
If you would like some case studies please contact me.

IT Induction
Frances,
I provide all new starters at Phillips & Drew with an IT induction. Usually takes place within a day or two of their arrival and forms part of the standard induction process. When they accept the job I’m told their start date and what applications they’ll use (usually Office, Lotus Notes, Organiser, Intranet, Internet and in-house systems). I also explain our Internet policy and what to do about viruses.
After that we talk about the training process in Phillips & Drew and how they can go about booking courses or coahing if they prefer. After a week I do a follow-up visit to make sure that they are happy receiving the support they need.
Every three months we run a formal Induction Day at which they learn about the company.
