default-16x9

Docent and Click2learn have merged into SumTotal Systems - the industry's single largest provider of learning and business performance technology and services.

The company said it now expects to be the clear choice for customers looking for a stable, long-term supplier partnership.

Industry analyst Trace Urdan of ThinkEquity Partners said that the new company would be a natural choice for larger organisations.

Urdan said: "Separately, Click2learn and Docent are already two of the most innovative and reliable companies in the space. Combined as SumTotal, the company is now the most financially viable company focused in this sector and clearly will be a safe bet for large organisations seeking a long-term partner."

The merger was approved at Click2learn and Docent stockholder meetings on March 18.

SumTotal's combined resources include:

- The largest customer base in the industry - with more than 40% of the Fortune 50 and 35% of the Global 50 - and the insight that comes from working to meet the needs of more than 600 enterprise platform customers across a wide range of industry sectors and geographies.

- A strong network of strategic partners including Accenture, Deloitte, Exult, IBM, Microsoft, NEC, BT, HP, Primedia, and Thomson Learning.

- The largest research and development, services and customer support teams in the industry.

- Approximately $35 million in cash and the scale to leverage operational efficiencies.
