My company are getting more and more interested in using e-learning for a variety of topics. As a result of this it has been decided that it would be a good idea for me to attend a course on designing e-learning courses. I am looking for a course, preferably 1-2 days, that isn't too expensive and as I live in Swindon is commutable and wouldn't require an overnight stay (more money). Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Two possibilities…
Hemsley Fraser run excellent training courses (I use them widely in my organisation in a number of subject areas), and they have two one-day courses available at present, namely:
E-learning for Trainers
and
E-learning Workshop
Both cost around £450 each. For full details, log onto http://www.hemsleyfraser.co.uk, where you can also book online. There are currently dates scheduled for 2002 and 2003.

Why not consider CeLP?
Had you considered looking at the Certified e-Learning Professional (CeLP) programme?
The CeLP initiative represents the world’s first comprehensive on-line certification programme for e-Learning professionals and consists of over 300 learner hours of online, collaborative self-study materials with tutorial support.
Certification tracks are available for: e-Learning Consultants, e-Learning Developers, e-Learning Tutors and e-Learning Managers
It will obviously take you more than a couple of days to complete one of these Certificated Tracks but there are no overnights involved in an on-line course and you will gain a proper transferable qualification.
The Certificate programme can even be complemented by a number of electives that will broaden your knowledge and skills in order to gain a full Diploma in e-Learning.
To find out more then check out the CeLP portal: http://www.elearningprofessional.com
I hope this helps.

Further to Adrian’s Idea…
…there is also the CIPD’s Certificate in Online Learning, if it is a formal qualification you are seeking.

Is Uley near Swindon? yes
We have been very impressed with the work of The Holley Warren Partnership and Sherpa Training. They are based in Uley which is near Stroud/Minchinhampton and (according to my atlas) not far from Swindon!! Their business model is an interesting approach to developing real materials whilst learning the skills and we are considering using their services (and their output) for some of our f@sterclass blended learning programmes
