Readiness Surveys
I’ve seen a few of these on e-learning suppliers’ websites, so while I try to remember which, in the meantime there is a useful 20-question readiness survey in Marc Rosenberg’s Book, “E-learning Strategy”, from McGraw-Hill.
From my experience though, it’s also worth surveying the general uptake on training and current perceptions, as many of the barriers to readiness turn out to be more general ones, rather than specific to e-learning. The best e-learning strategies aren’t e-learning strategies at all, in that it’s the overall training strategy, encompassing e-learning, that is the most important thing. We hear a lot about blended learning. Blended learning approaches impact on both traditional and new delivery methods, so you need to asses how ready you are to embrace all these changes. For instance, in my work within my own previous organisation, it was clear that the HR/training community needed a lot of support before they could actively and successfully embrace the new ways of training, not just in the e-learning arena.
Check out Elearnity
We have found the writing of David Wilson at Elearnity particularly useful http://www.elearnity.com (and also featured in a number of ways here on TrainingZone.
Marc Rosenberg’s book was also reviewed recently on the site (by ME!)- note the title is simply E-Learning.
IQDos in Marlow also used to feature an are you ready instrument on their site http://www.iqdos.com (Sue Harley is the main contact there)
