I am currently researching (mainly for my CIPD report) employee induction in manufacturing companies. Do you work in a shift and core hour environment? How is induction conducted within your organisation? I would be grateful for any induction policys from companies of a similar sector.
I am also interested how organisations train their managers, supervisors and team leaders on best practice of employee induction. Do you know of any policies or seminars that i can get hold of?
Id be greatful for any help
Thank you
Regards
Katie

Induction
I work in the pharmacutical industry and what a new starter gets as an induction very much depends on the department that the individual works in. Some are better than others.
In the factory areas induction tends to involve a couple of hours of training presentation on general health and safety and on the Good manufacturing practice guidelines that are our industry regulations. Then they spend up to 12 weeks, depending on the process they are training on, working 1 to 1 with a trained trainer (experienced operator). At the end of this period, and if the trainer is happy that they are competent, they are signed off. We are hoping to improve this process to include more off the job training so that the 12 weeks can be reduced. I would really appreciate it if there was anyone who had any ideas on how to improve or, if you also operated in a manufacturing industry that was pharma or food related, were willing to undertake a bench marking excercise?
