Max Oncy Nathan who ran a child model agency called 'Kamera Kids' based in Balham, London has been banned from running or helping to run any employment agency for seven years after he kept fees due to some models and passed on others only after long delays.
London (South) Employment Tribunal imposed the seven-year ban following proceedings brought by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Mothers of child models had complained about Mr Nathan's behaviour to DTI's Employment Agency Standards Helpline on 0645 555 105.
Following the ban, DTI Minister Patricia Hewitt said:
"Employment agency laws exist to protect workers who use employment agencies to find work. The law will be enforced vigorously to prevent agency workers from being exploited.
"Most agencies are well run and make a vital contribution to the UK's flexible labour market. However, the DTI will continue to take strong action against rogue agents who withhold their clients' money."
And Ms Hewitt added:
"I would urge anyone who believes they have been wrongly treated by an employment agency to telephone the DTI's Employment Agency Standards Helpline."
