Modern City professionals including stockbrokers, investment bankers, and accountants are increasingly pursuing pub management roles, according to a Whitbread survey. This marks a shift from traditional candidates like police officers and military personnel who historically dominated the sector.

An early morning report doing the rounds today tells how the yuppies of today cannot handle the strain like they used to in the eighties! On the other hand maybe it’s a trend toward formalising a long standing practice?

It would appear that the prime candidates in the City of London to move into pub management are now the stockbroker and investment banker types, and of course those experts of interesting bar-room chat – accountants.

The news is given in a survey conducted on behalf of pub-chain Whitbread who comment that traditionally it’s police officers, footballers and armed forces personnel who tend to be at the forefront in applying for pub management and tenancies.
