The audience for this fourth edition is primarily students studying courses in HRM or the DMS. As an academic text it is excellent in capturing the latest research and trends that exist in the field of HRM and will allow students to logically progress throughout the text in order to achieve an understanding of the core areas essential for these qualifications.

The book would have benefited from more models and examples as many students may find it difficult to visualise how these are implemented in practice. The use of more flow diagrams would also assist greatly here.

The context of the book is set on a UK basis with little mention of the globalisation of HRM and the increasing role of E – HR solutions.

A definite read for students but if you are looking for a book that describes a practical approach to HRM then this will not be the book for you.
