I work in manufacturing and being relatively new to the industry, I’m always looking for help and advice on what others do. There is an organisation that does exchange site visits for manufacturing, but these focus on things like lean practices, health and safety, environmental awareness and so on; there is nothing about learning and development, which is odd because it’s a multi-million pound business within this sector.
Does anyone know of any organisations for L&D professionals where they can exchange ideas and arrange site visits? Or does anyone out there work in manufacturing and want to help me start such a network?

Company Raids
Hi Jane
Informatology organise Company Raids and also have lunches which L&D Professionals can attend to discuss and share expertise. You do not need to be a member to attend a lunch and the raids have their own payment structure. The website is: http://www.informatology.com/
Hope this is helpful
thanks

Thanks – this looks interesting
Thanks Rosanne, this is the kind of stuff I was looking for.
Company Raids
Thanks Jane for your original post and Rosanne for your reply.
Rosanne, I have now registered on the web site you suggested to Jane and feel the Company Raids may prove useful.
Has any reader attended one? If so, how have you managed to use the information or experience in your workplace?
Jane – I work for a manufacturing SME in the East of England. I’m stacked out with work at the moment, but maybe I can help you in the future? My HR role does not encompass Health & Safety or environment, other than monitoring and recording H&S induction and safe working procedures after delivery by our H&S officer or one of the section H&S reps; although as part of our CSR policy (yet to be written) I will have to cover some environmental angles in the future.
Regards,
Hazel.
