Famous Sayings

default-16x9

Hello Members,

I have only just joined this site and I am looking forward to getting to know as many members on here as possible.

On a recent holiday my father enlightened me with a couple of interesting statements and explained where they came from. I had not really given it much thought before, but made me think.

The example he shared was the saying: "Daylight Robbery"

I was told that this phrase evolved following an unfair taxation on windows and their sizes...

I am currently collecting as many examples as possible for a presentation I am delivering to a group of youth. In a nutshell, I am helping them appreciate the power of the web and how they can use it to source information. I will be telling them that I used the web, to source help on this subject through www.trainingzone.co.uk, so I would like as many examples as possible please. All I need is a list of the phrases, not what they mean. That's their job. I just need the statement.

I will start the process off:

  • You can't have your cake and eat it

I really want around a 100 as there will be 10 groups

I look forward to seeing what you come back with!

Many Thanks

Mark Colley

Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly.. They lit a fire in the craft, it sank, proving once and for all that you can’t have your kayak and heat it.

Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not watching.

There are plenty of teams in every sport that have great players and never win titles.  Most the time time those players aren’t willing to sacrifice for the greater good of the team.  The funny thing is, in the end, either unwillingness to sacrifice makes individual goals more difficult to achieve.  One thing I believe to the fullest is that if you think and achieve as a team, the indiviudal accolades will take care of themselves.  Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence wins championships. (Michael Jordan).
