Does anyone have a method/template for recording effectiveness of training recieved by employees? I'm not talking about the 'happy sheet' at the end of the course but rather a follow-up three months later (for example) to assess the effectiveness of training. Do you just talk to the employee or get the opinion of the line manager as well? How do you record this? Any ideas/suggestions would be most welcome - at present this would need to be paper based, with hopefully in the near future this being transfered to an on-line system.
Regards.

Thanks
Thanks Steve,
I have been looking at them and am working around some of their ideas – I was just interested to know if anyone else had any other ideas/experience. Thank you for the link.

Wheel of Life
Hi John
You will have to use your imagination with this one but if I was starting from scratch I would use the Wheel of Life model as a tool to record effectiveness of training.
This could be paper based and easily transferred to an on line tool.

Feedback on effectiveness of training
Hi John,
we issue an evaluation form (happy sheet) on the day, but follow this up six months later (to a percentage of the delegates), by sending another evaluation form to the delegate and also one to their line manager. We are able to get much more info as the learning and development will have been put into practice during the six month gap. In addition, for some of our management programmes, we invite delegates to a focus group six month later for good qualitiive feedback and discussion and as a result often make changes to the content, order or timings of the workshops etc.
Hope this is helpful.
kind regards

LEAP System
If you drop me a e Mail I can send you a system as a set of Word documents / templates I developed called LEAP (LEarning & APplication) which seeks to do this but not just by a post event follow up. I can be contacted here: gplatt@eef.org.uk
Evaluation tools
Hi John
One company I used to work at were big on measuring quantifiably the effect of the training we provided. We designed a Knowledge/Skill Checklist that could be used pre-course, immediately post-course, and again a few months after the course. Although not perfect, it did help us provide detailled evidence of the effectiveness of our training department.
For a copy (based on coaching skills training) to adapt: view http://www.abctrainingsolutions.biz ; roll over top toolbar item ‘Free Trainer Stuff’ ; then select ‘TNA and Evaluation Tools’ from drop down menu. You’ll find the tool listed as ‘TNA and Evaluation – Coaching Skills’
Hope that helps
Happy Days!
Bryan
Thanks
Thanks Bryan,
I’ll certainly have a look – I’ll let you know how I got on.
Sometimes of course it is difficult to assess if the training is being applied in the workplace or has changed behaviour e.g. First Aid, do we have to wait for an accident??

John
