Finish what you’ve started

WOW - just over a week since the last blog; Over the Rainbow.

I wonder what dreams people have been working towards in that time. I suggested in my last blog that dreams required perseverance and that's where I want to focus your minds this week.

Have you ever felt like you've bitten off more than you can chew?

Maybe your best intentions have got you to a point where you're so close to achieving something, but everything seems to be getting harder.

You may even be thinking; should I just give up and accept I'm not going to achieve this!

If you're experiencing any of these situations in your life right now, don't panic. You're not alone and you're almost certain to experience them again at some other point in time.

You see, this is often what happens when you set GOALS in your life. Your Goals require you to plan,  then focus on and give energy to them.

Rarely are Goals achieved whilst watching TV from the comfort of your own armchair! For some of you, planning may not be your strength. For others, you may lose focus from time to time and become distracted. For others, if it's taking up too much energy then you may lose heart.

These are some of the reasons why some people decide not to have Goals in their lives. It's easier to just plod on doing what they've always done. My challenge to those people without Goals in their lives; "don't interrupt those who are getting on and doing things with their lives".

My challenge to those people with Goals in their lives; "keep going and finish what you've started".

You can then sit back and put your feet up when you've achieved your Goal.

It will also mean even more to you if you've had to dig deep at times and find that extra bit of energy to kick on towards the end.

Here's some inspirations which I'd like to share;

There was a guy who ran the London Marathon in April 2010 with a fridge on his back! He instantly earned my respect. He could have given up at any point and people would have understood. However, when you cross that starting line, you want to at least cross the finishing line too. He did!

Our daughter Becca has recently mastered the art of diving to the bottom of the pool to retrieve a brick. Watching her dive always fascinates me. To see that determination to kick on one more time to retrieve the brick, without coming up and starting again; that's inspiring to watch.

One of my hero's (who I've mentioned many times before)  is Miles Hilton-Barber who has achieved many things in his life. He refers to himself as 'Batman' as he's blind as a bat! Yet this bat is a happy bat and he completed the Marathon des Sables (6 Marathons across the Sahara Desert) with such badly blistered feet even when the doctors told him he couldn't run!

Whatever Goal you have started and are struggling with right now, remember the reason why it became one of your Goals in the first place. Go back and re-plan if you need to. Give it more focus if you've let it slip. Energise yourself for that final push if you need to. The feeling of achievement will last forever and it's well worth the effort.

Regards

Jeff
