Have you ever had one of those wonderful moments that makes you giddy as a teenager but yet feeling suddenly ever so grown up all in one hit? When the butterflies in your tummy go into overdrive? When something you have wanted for quite a ling time suddenly seems within touching distance?
A moment that makes you say "blimey, I am more than a little bit happy." A moment that sees you dancing like an idiot around the kitchen table, with a face like the Cheshire Cat? It happened to me this week & it felt brilliant.
I have been planning the setting up of my own company for what seems like forever and regular readers will know that, since taking the plunge, I have found it terrifying and challenging as well a quite exciting too. This week it became a bit more real, in a marvellous way that I really didn't expect.
So what was it that got me so excited that I danced round my office singing my heart out to the theme tune from Flashdabce? What was it that made me even happier than when I took the call earlier that day from a client asking for help creating a workshop to design their new values?
Believe it or not, it was seeing in print my very first advert! Let me fill you in. A few weeks back I was lucky enough to be invited to attend this month's Glasstap Conference and with the invitation came the chance to submit my very own half page advert.
It was too good an opportunity to turn down, but I will be honest it sent me into a bit of a tailspin. As a complete newbie at advert creation I had 48 hours to encapsulate what my company represents (preferably in under 100 words). My goal was to find the words that mean as much to my audience as they do to me. When it matters as much as this does to me, perspective is kind of hard to find. Eeeeek, it was time to call for help.
And marvellously, the help came. It was wise, inspiring, thoughtful and most importantly honest. Together we created something that made me more than a little bit proud and it was this I was reminded of as I opened the conference guide sent to me this week. The feeling that I am not on this adventure alone, that there are many outstanding people who are cheering me on, sharing their wisdom and helping to show me the way. It made me feel safe.
Thanks to everyone who helped me, but special mention to Karen, Zoe at Glasstap and Stuart at Red Ghost Creative for making it happen so brilliantly (click here if you want to see what they helped me to create https://youexcelerate.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/you-excelerate-conference-advert.pdf).
Altogether now, leg warmers at the ready, volume up high.... "What a feeling, being's believing...."
