Free resource: diagnostic for maximising L&D opportunities in your organisation

time_thief

James McLuckie of Eden Tree provides the community with another great free resource.

This diagnostic is aimed at senior managers to help them to assess the level of development support that they provide to their managers and staff, and to establish if they are creating the conditions for learning to thrive throughout their organisation.

How to use this diagnostic

The diagnostic presents a series of good practice statements. These have been designed to encourage senior mangers to consider if they truly promote a culture of learning within their organisations.

You can either provide the diagnostic to senior managers to complete individually, and then arrange to talk through it with them afterwards. Or you can complete the diagnostic together with them.

There are four sections in the diagnostic:

  1. Learning organisation culture.
  2. Identifying your managers’ development needs.
  3. Supporting your managers.
  4. Knowledge sharing.

Each statement should be considered and then rated as follows:

  1. Not yet demonstrated.
  2. Demonstrated.
  3. Clearly demonstrated.

For those the senior manager has rated either "demonstrated" or "clearly demonstrated", evidence should be provided to support this. You should consider this evidence carefully, and discuss any concerns or comments that you have with them directly, advising where appropriate.

For those rated "not yet demonstrated", they should consider the action they are going to take to address the situation. Again, advice and direction should be given as appropriate.
