Friday – the day that we prepare excuses for Monday!

default-16x9

Remember "Sunscreen", that piece of prose giving advice, that circulated the student e-mail inboxes and was posted to many a web site? Well I could have done with some advice this week.

It's been one of those weeks when things don't go to plan. You know what I mean

  • the PC has a hard drive failure - and you've not backed up properly,
  • the dog becomes ill - everywhere,
  • the teenage daughter becomes hormonal - and takes it out on the best china!

Need I elaborate?

Well, I'm grateful to Mr D. otherwise known as Dennis DeSimone whose newsletters giving HR and training advice are thought provoking - and good copy. Dennis's latest mailing is a list of those execuses for not getting the work done. Here it is:

  1. - That's the way we've always done it.
  2. - I didn't know you were in a hurry for it.
  3. - That's not my department.
  4. - No one told me to go ahead.
  5. - I'm waiting for an O.K.
  6. - How did I know this was different?
  7. - That's _____'s job, not mine.
  8. - Wait till the boss comes back and ask him/her.
  9. - I forgot.
  10. - I didn't think it was very important.
  11. - I'm so busy I just can't get around to it.
  12. - I thought I told you.
  13. - I wasn't hired to do that.

Most of Dennis's newsletters have a more serious tone
