As Harold Jarche points out, the Training Department's had a good run, but the latter part of the twentieth century was its 'golden age'. This implies that the Training Department is in decline, which seems crazy when you read about all the fantastic ideas and new projects that the people who work in them are coming up with. But some of these new ideas sound pretty similar to the things that other fields have been doing for years. Is it unthinkable that responsibility for learning in organisations could shift to Knowledge Management teams (or even IT)? Or will these departments have to integrate more tightly?
