GEMISIS Millennium Conference

The GEMSIS Millennium Conference is taking place at the University of Salford from Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th May 2000.

To mark the dawn of the new millennium GEMISIS is hosting a major conference in which key research themes will be explored in the design, development and delivery of multimedia services. The six key themes, from which predictions for the future will be extracted, are:

>§ Knowledge Management and Collaborative Working
>§ Community and Social Issues
>§ Quality of Service Networking
>§ Multimedia and the Web

These themes will be supplemented with focused discussion sessions exploring the future impact of multimedia applications and network technology in the key development sectors of the GEMISIS project.

GEMISIS, based at the University of Salford, is a multi-million pound collaboration of corporate institutions and the public and private sectors. The award-winning project develops and delivers advanced online applications in the fields of business, education, health and the local community. Offering expertise in cutting edge research, online learning, electronic commerce, knowledge management, and website design, our aim is to drive the effective development of user driven applications that fully
exploit the benefits of broadband telecommunications. Evaluation, dissemination of best practice, and the creation of commercially viable services are key deliverables.

Fees for the event are £140.00 for members of the IEE and BCS, and £180.00 for non-members. The fee is inclusive of all food and refreshments throughout the three days, a drinks reception on the Tuesday evening and a Gala dinner on the Wednesday evening.
