I am currently designing a training room and I am looking to source a very basic metal strip that can run around the whole of teh room to allow me to hang up flips etc with magnets. Can anyone help? do you know any suppliers etc
I would be very grateful as I need them in place asap.

Paul,
It may sound very obvious, have you tried B&Q or your local DIY store?
Kindest regards

Magnetic boards/strips
Paul
I bought some cheap metal noticeboards at IKEA. They also sell metal strips although probably not long enough for your use.
Be innovative…
Hi
your facilities management firm or maintenance department can obtain this easily from local metal suppliers.
An alternative is to use magnetic paint and make the whole wall magnetic http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4SKPB_enGB270GB270&q=magnetic+paint&meta= this can be used to create a fantastic wow factor, and add more possibilities to the use of the room.

Pendastrip
A bit more costly perhaps than ‘basic’ but my preference is something like Pendastrip, which doesn’t depend on magnets. Chances are the magnets will go missing just as you want to hang up a f/c, or they are too weak to hold up the paper etc. Each to their own.

magnetic paint….
Re; Mike’s brilliant idea about magnetic paint; some of the magnetic paint available is matt black, blackboard paint, this would allow you to use chalk or liquid chalk as well.
Training Room Walls
Paul
Magnetic paint is the easier option, the walls of our Training Rooms here at Cotswold Conference Centre are coated with it and visiting trainers seem to love it–no more bits of Blu Tack.
The paint itself is a pretty yucky dark grey, but when it’s dry, you just paint over it in the colour you want in the normal way.You can then buy small very thin plastic shapes backed with magnetic material which hold the paper onto the wall.Very simple but very effective
Staples
We bought ours from Staples. They are fairly short but we put them next to each other to form a continuous strip.
They are not on the website but are definately in store.
Flipchart magnets and rails
Dear Paul
The Training Foundation has two dedicated TAP Train the Trainer Centres located at the University of Warwick. Following a recent refurbishment and the installation of integrated video camera, sound and projection systems we decided to fit magnetic flip chart rails all around the ten technology suites and training rooms.
These rails come in standard lengths of white marker board steel 1200 mm long and 75 mm wide, with foam adhesive on the reverse. You can also buy assorted sizes to make up specific wall lengths if you provide the wall measurements.
We went one step further and had 300 customised ‘Logo-Mag’ magnets produced, each of which carries The Training Foundation logo. These are strong enough to hold an amazing 20 sheets of A4 paper at only 40mm diameter. The result looks very impressive and trainers attending TAP courses here are always asking us where we got the system from.
We used:

An alternative
Hi,
You can buy post it flip charts – they have the same reusable glue on the back (but a bit stronger) that is used on standard post it notes. They are more expensive than standard notes but will give you the versatility to use them anywhere regardless of what the room set up is. They also come in an easel chart format so you can use them without a flip chart stand.

I also came across this website http://www.usingflipcharts.co.uk/index.htm I don’t know if it is any good but may have some ideas on there of use.
Hannah
but are they green?
Hannah
the “post-it” flip pads; I’m told that the glue is not re-cyclable and gums up re-cycling processors!

RE: the previous comment on the recycleability of Postits
I prefer facts to rumour so here they are:

Another point to consider if using metals in a room – is there is any risk to the provision of wireless networks?
rumour!?
I’m sorry, Hannah, you have proven my informant wrong!
I shall pass on the weblink to the person concerned, who, as a highly qualified University Environmental Studies lecturer, will doubtless find some reason to deny it!
