The home secretary, Jack Straw is expected to announce plans later today to create a £20m Crime Unit that is to include members of the police, customs and excise, the National Crime Squad and the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS) to start work next year.

This unit will be responsible for monitoring and catching paedophiles with entrapment procedures as the entrapment proposal last week to catch paedophiles using chatrooms was thrown out of the House of Lords last week.

This unit will also be used to combat crime using the Internet and hacking attempts at British businesses.
