Accreditation can be a confusing issue. For some people, the award of a certificate or credit increases the 'currency' and value of their training. And for others, it detracts from the usefulness of the experience because of the need to meet accrediting criteria which may not be relevant to what they want to learn. Accreditation also extends to such complex areas as vocational training, assessment of prior learning, inspection and examinations.
This online workshop is an opportunity to seek clarity on these and other issues with other trainers and teachers. Amongst the issues open to debate are:
- Whose interests are served by accreditation?
- Does accreditation of a course really increase its value?
- How can prior learning be successfully assessed?
- Which accrediting schemes have achieved wider recognition?
- Is accreditation the route we should follow?
