How to accredit a Management/leadership course

default-16x9

The organisation I work for has developed a leadership course for the public sector for those new to management or looking to move into management.

We are interested in exploring whether we can get this course accredited. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about this and who may be able to help us?

We are particiularly to keep its current format which involves completion of projects which are work related. We do not want to have to change it to make it academic or fit artificial learning outcomes.

We want tto keep the learning related to the workplace. Any advice on awarding bodies who will be supportive of this approach is welcome.

  1. Have you tried the National School for Govt?
The NSG runs courses and qualification programmes aimed specifically at the public sector and they may be interested in your product. Alternatively, try contacting the Chartered Management Institute. Hope this helps.

  2. Accreditation
In 1996 I scoured the known world looking for a quality learning organisation that would accredit a very successful telebusiness programme we were running at AVIVA.

We had all kinds of problems getting a body to provide a robust academic assessment of wheat we did whilst staying with our own format which was modular training courses with ongoing projects and an overall project linked to improving the call centre operation.

Eventually we found OCR and they were brilliant taking our programme as was and applying the necessary academic assessment to the material and how we assessed the delegates.

They awarded it a diploma in Telebusiness management in conjunction with Cardiff University who supplied the professor to assess the portfolio of work and final written project.

I do not know if OCR still accredits programmes in this way, if they do and they still have the same attitude they would be an excellent option to look at.

The other organisation I have had more recent experience with is the Institute of Leadership and Management. They will also benchmark internal programmes and offer valid and recognised accreditation and award qualifications.

I used to work as can associate for the People Development Team who are a major ILM accreditation centre and have a lot of experience in tailoring accreditation and courses to meet the needs of all kinds of organisations from as BP to HM prisons.

  3. ILM
We are looking to accredit our courses at the moment, and have found there are a number of ways to go about it… you can contact a local university and see whether they will work with you. Try a government sponsored learning network, or (as we are doing) you can contact the Institute of Leadership and Management who can align your courses to NVQ’s (and will take into account if some-one has already completed the course). http://www.i-l-m.com or 0207 294 2470.

  4. ILM
We have several years experience of working with ILM to endorse an inhouse course in the public sector and found it very successful both for the participants and the business (used it as part of succession planning). Try speaking to your local ILM business manager to see what they can offer.

  5. ILM Accreditation
Hi Derek, Our Leadership programme is accredited by ILM and is one that was already written/established. I would be happy for you to come see. Get in Touch.
