I have been asked by a small company (ca.20-30 employees) to review their HR policies. In spite of quite a lot of research I am finding it difficult to find out exactly which policies are legally required, and which are best practice. Can anyone share their ideas or knowledge please?
Thanks in advance.

I might be wrong but…
I think you are legally obliged to have grievance and disciplinary policies, a health & safety policy (with the big HSE poster displayed somewhere prominent) and that you need to give folks copies of their job descriptions and contractual terms but other than that I don’t think you are legally obliged to have any other policies – but good practice would dictate that it would be sensible to implement others.
I’d be interested in hearing from some of the HR pro’s with respect to this though.

I too tried to track this down and ‘it depends’
D&G, H&S, T&C of employment, policies on equal opps, age, etc are all increasing.
It also depends on the sector – i.e. if in food manufacturing or distribution etc.
