Induction experiences

default-16x9

Next week I am going to be part of a 'Ship it day' (see this link for some more details about what a Ship it day is - http://www.atlassian.com/company/about/shipit ) and we are going to be looking at our induction practises to see where they can be improved. This would be a joint venture between HR & L&D.

I have been part of a few inductions over the years but I would really like to hear about what you have seen, heard, experienced or delivered as part of an induiction programme to get some different thoughts of best practise or areas to avoid.

I would love to know which inductions you have been part of that have been really good and memorable and any inductions that have been less than engaging.

From my experience the best induction I attended not only enagged my mind, but also engaged my heart to the organisation, by recognising the reasons for working for the organisation (a charity), engaging with the cause and recognising the difference that the organisation made.

As for poor experiences, poorly planned days, boring speakers and some current staff openly running down the organisation to new starters.

I am sure you will have had some interesting experiences and I look forward to hearing them.

Thanks

Stuart
