I've designed a few Induction programmes in the past, so feel pretty confident that I know a thing or two about them. However, I'm aware of the 'conscious-competence' model, and want to be sure that I'm not starting to go stale or miss a trick. So, I'd like to know about the best induction programmes that you've ever been on or involved with, and what made them so great? I'm not looking for ideas on content here, but more structure, method and delivery. Delighted to discuss on or off-line. Thanks in advance for all contributions! Sheridan

Theme
Hi Sheridan,
I’m currently working on reviewing our Induction Programme.
We’re trying to base our theme on some kind of journey, the idea is that the new staff are taking a journey into the unknown when they join the company. We want to have a passport as a record of the modules that they have attended and when they leave the room they have the passport stamped to show they have been there. We have had suggestions of travelling round the world, travelling through time. But the one that a lot of people like, is a journey through the solar system with various modules and sessions based on parts of the solar system.
has anyone done anything like this before?
Stuart
Journey
Stuart,
Yes I have, and I had completely forgotten about it! New starters found it quite appealing I think as it was very visual, and easy to mark off when they had reached certain milestones. It’s still quite a valid concept i think, especially if the programme has some flexible elements. For example, “Congratulations! You have now reached X – to get to Y you can either take route A, B or C”.
Thanks for jogging my memory, and good luck with your own programme.
Kind regards,
Sheridan
