I am piloting learning options for a supervisory development curriculum (basic supervision and electives) and looking for innovative ways to train supervisors. For instance, I am piloting a seven-session course (1/2 day once a week) using a book for the material, and experiential homework each week. We've discussed mentoring, coaching, discussion groups, classroom training, audio, CBT, Web-based, etc. I am looking for options that have been successful, but are not "bricks and mortor" classroom based courses. I work for state government with 32 agencies of various sizes. The training could be agency-specfic or a mixed audience. I am working on two pilots right now--a 2-day course and a 7-session course. What else can you suggest?

‘Transitions’ Action Development Programmes
Melanie,
We author and license others to use the ‘Transitions’ management development programme which can be used from junior to senior management levels of development. Ours is a task based approach to development which we call ‘Action Development’. It enables improved action through development and improved development through specific action. Like action learning the participants develop through small, regular discussion group sessions. Our tasks put some structure in place to enable supervisors/managers to quickly identify the topics that will help their learning and development and, at the same time, importantly improve their job performance. It is a method that encourages continuous improvement – when we leave the organisation the participants continue to learn and develop.
Our programmes can lead to formal qualification we are an accredited Institute of Management Centre. If you are interested I can send you our literature if you forward your address.
