The Institute of IT Training (IITT) has published the latest revision of the standards they put together for those involved in developing e-learning materials.
The standards, first published in February last year, have so far been adopted by the likes of the University for Industry, Edexcel (formerly BTEC and the London Examinations Board) and the Association for Computer-based Training, and consist of Standards for Technology Based Learning Materials, Competencies for Developers & Designers of Technology Based Learning Materials and Competencies for Online Tutors.
Although the standards can be adopted by anyone, the IITT offers an E-learning Provider Accreditation Programme for providers of e-learning who can demonstrate that they abide by the standards. They also offer a two-part certification programme for IT trainers, which concentrate on the skills needed to transfer IT skills to others and developing course materials using sound instructional design.
