My question is simply really - what types of topics/subjects would you expect to see as the content of a training session on Interpersonal skills?
I have been having a discussion with a manager around the terminology of "Interpersonal Skills", and have been trying to explain that this terminology can mean different things to different people.
So, I'd like to know what it means to all of you. just as a bit of research!

my perception
Helen,
look up the Wikipedia definition of Interpersonal skills at this link, interesting perspective:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpersonal_skills
To me Interpersonal Skills means the following:-
* Effectively communicating your message
* Empathy and understanding towards others
* Using Assertive language in your business/personal life
* The ability to build strong and effective relationships with others, based on trust, honesty and integrity
* Undertanding your EQ (Emotional Intelligence) and how it impacts your relationships with others
* Actively listening, clarifying and summarising skills
* Effective Questionning skills
* Understanding the importance of Body Language in interpersonal skills
As you have rightly pointed out Helen it will mean different things to different people, however you will have key skills/topics/subjects that will thread through people’s feedback such as effective communication.
kindest regards

Interpersonal skills
Hi, Helen
I work with postgraduates students and when we talk about interpersonal skills the kinds of things that are mentioned include : confidence in communicating with others, building rapport, teamworking and sensitivity to diversity. Hope this helps with your research.
anecdotal
I worked with one Director of L&D who thought that any manager who said that a member of their staff needed Interpersonal Skills Training was simply saying
“I don’t like ’em, but I can’t be bothered to put my finger on what it is about them that I don’t like”
Oh, for a detailed TNA!
