ibstpi Standards
You may wish to refer to the 14 Competencies for the Certified Technical Trainer from the International Board of Standards for Training Performance and Instruction (known as ibstpi). http://www.ibstpi.org
A useful book, complete with details of the performance assessment criteria, is: “How to be a Successful Technical Trainer”, ISBN 0-07-213033-4.

The Institute of IT Training runs many courses in training skills for IT Trainers and an assessment program against the Trainer Activity Profile. The site includes details of the Competence Framework for Trainers. Contact the institute for full details of TAP which measures the trainer’s performance against set criteria on delivery style & the structure of the session. Trainers are also assessed on the amount of time spent giving information, involving learners, checking understanding etc to ensure effective skills transfer.
