Don't WASTE your IT training budget! Learning is only effective
if it is reinforced after the training, otherwise the benefits
are lost. A study shows that after 2 days only 33 percent of the
knowledge remained and after 3 weeks, just 15 percent! To claim a
free Nevada Learning Series guide, e-mail your contact details

skills. For more details, see

Do you know whose brains were behind, iVillage or Alta
Vista? ...or who was the leading figure of Artificial
Intelligence? What is the RIP Act? Could you list different
computer manufacturers or Internet Service Providers? Learning
that is fun is also much more memorable, which is why
Lynne Callister and Sue Parr have developed an 80-page series of
light-hearted quizzes, word searches, website addresses, case
studies, activities and exercises to check candidates' knowledge
and understanding of working in an IT environment. The activities
can be used between more formal training sessions, to recap
previous workshops, or as ice breakers. Or they could be included
in a staff newsletter or on an intranet. Download a sample and
purchase the entire pack now at

Wouldn't it be great to manage to your business using hard facts
not feel? It's difficult to make informed decisions without the
latest information. Yet this is what most businesses do. They
rely on data from last month or last week. What if you could see
actual head count levels, or revenue levels on a daily basis?

IT skills provide best career opportunities
A new survey carried out for the DTI and Engineering Council UK
shows that information technology, electronics and communications
(ITEC) graduates have high employment and pay levels and the best
career opportunities compared to other graduates as a whole. It
also reveals that women do better when choosing ITEC careers.

Any Answers
This month, there's been a bumper batch of IT-related questions
on the site. Can you provide the answers?

- I need to assess familiarity and fluency with Windows/Mouse
etc for a large user population across the country. They won't
necessarily have web access so a web tool isn't a solution. What
I need is a small simulation or test that can be sent out on
floppy and self-administered. Has anybody seen anything like
this? Thanks!
Neil Barrett

- Can anyone recommend anywhere where I can take a Hotmetal Pro
6 course in the UK? I am based in Poole, Dorset.
Irene Richards

- I have recently been looking for a training venue and I notice
that it appears to be the norm to pay anything from 600 GBP + for
a training venues in the London area. Someone suggested I buy my
own PCs and just rent the venue which would be cheaper in some
cases. However, I would also have to buy a bigger car to
transport the PCs and I do not have anywhere to store 6-8 PCs in
my house. How do other trainers transport their PCs and store
them at the end of the day?
Sade Awolola

- Does anybody know where I can access - preferably on-line -
training on Act! Contact Management software? Or can you
recommend any (cost-effective) one-day training sessions in the
North West?
