IT and HR: time for a closer relationship?
Often in-house IT training is housed by the IT Department or
outsourced by the HR Department. Perhaps neither course of action
is appropriate, and what is called for is a marriage between IT
and HR. Jane Foy has been looking into this area, and here she
suggests how a more productive union between IT and HR could be

– Any ideas for promoting/advertising IT Training?
– From what I understand , the ECDL qualification doesn’t follow
the national curriculum framework but is recognised europe wide.
What advantages and disadvantages are there in this? Is it better
to offer accredited qualifications that are comparable to other
national recognised certificates and can be built and added to?
Or is there more value in a system that is marketed much more
widely (outside of the UK) and is therefor more transferable?

– IT Policies: I have recommended to a client that a good way of
presenting this typically boring subject matter is to design a
computer based quiz. They have agreed as long as it is pitched to
an intelligent audience. Does anyone have any bright ideas?

We run a company induction at the moment, but are looking to
develop a specific course for long term IT project staff. I would
be interested in ideas of what should include other than basic
company information. Do you think that covering project
management skills in an induction is appropriate?

skills of graduates who are coming onto a funded scheme that we
run. In order to place these graduates with a company we need an
accurate picture of their IT skills. Can anyone recommend a
