IT Trainers Newswire #8 – 10 January 2001

IT Trainers Newswire - Issue # 8 10 January 2001
Yell Awards 2000 - Best e-Commerce Site (B2B)

Editor's Note

Happy New Year! We wait with anticipation to see what 2001
has in store in terms of technological advances and the impact changes may incur for us IT Trainers. Already, there has beentalk of plastic processor chips set to revolutionise the PC and communications world. The sale of mobile phones over the Christmas period now means that around two-thirds of the British population find it... easy to talk. This may be a big year for Microsoft; will the division of this software giant take place? Is it the end for Mr Bill Gates, or will he go from strength to strength? Here at TrainingZONE we aim to keep you informed with as many events that may interest you, or if you know something we do not, help to keep everyone in the picture by e-mailing your information at the address listed below.

1. Research has shown that there has been a slower than
anticipated uptake to Microsoft Windows 2000. Could it be that more people are not biting the bullet and lining Mr Gatespockets as quickly as before, or are users becoming more wary to being the first-off-the-mark and waiting a little longer until the product is more established on the market?

2. If however, you are ready to move to Microsoft Windows 2000, from versions 95, 98 or even 3.1, there are certain measures you need to be aware of. This basic guide gives an overview as to the areas that need considering if you wish to start the new year with the latest operating system.

3. Every training magazine you read nowadays mentions e-learning, and certainly the buzzword for 2000 would be one where you could stick an E in front. Many IT Trainers are enhancing their existing skills by taking on board issues of e-learning, but in reality how prepared are e-trainers in supporting this method of training?

4. The largest Information and Communications Technology show for Education (BETT) starts today at the London Olympia. This year will see many new features such as areas dedicated to Further, Higher and Vocational education, Distance Learning and the Skills Agenda, covering features such as future skills and learning

5. Are you looking for a new projector that is supposedly the lightest and smallest currently on the market? The Proxima UltraLight X350 has received favourable reviews and is intended for the business person who needs this type of equipment if travelling is a major part of the job. Please be seated when you read this article as the price is not one that can be taken lightly.

This newsletter covers a range of stories for the IT Trainer from general training issues through to latest software/hardware releases from a variety of organisations and is intended to keep you informed of as many IT issues of relevance that can be found.

Tons of courses!
Great news for people wanting to find courses, seminars and
conferences on TrainingZONE. In addition to the wide range of training courses from leading providers that was featured at the launch of the service in October 2000, the new facility has seen over 500 training courses added directly to it by TrainingZONE members. Among the providers signing up at the launch in October were Hemsley Fraser, Training Solutions, Spearhead Training,
Phoenix Training and CIMA Mastercourses but since that time over 70 providers have taken advantage of the opportunity to feature their courses free of charge. As a result, TrainingZONEs courses database now provides details on over 3,000 training events covering everything from successful budgeting and Microsoft Office skills through to training the trainer and NLP. The service complements TrainingZONEs partnership with THINQ, one of the worlds largest databases of courses and events.
