Just a moment of thought to refresh your leadership

Many of our friends, colleagues and clients tell us how the simple things can make such a difference to how they’re operating as a leader and manager. This is one of the reasons why we publish a simple thought, question or tip every week¹. We do this via Twitter – you remember I bravely stepped into the social media business world a few months ago?

We hope that summer will provide you with some precious time (even a tiny amount) to think about how you’re leading and an opportunity to focus on some change you would like to put into practice.

Here are some of our favourite tips from those we’ve shared over the last six months. Take one or two of them into your thinking and if after reflection you know it could make a difference then welcome them into your practice as a leader.

o    Don't hope things will get easier, instead find ways to make yourself better.

o    How can you integrate a little of what’s missing from your leadership…. today?

o    When sizing up your leadership consider whether you’re in service of the organisation and the people in it.

o    Management tip: Keep 'closed lists', have one every day & only put on it what you can & will complete that day.

o    “Why..?” questions keep people focused on problems. Use “what..?” or “How..?” framed questions to get your team focused on solutions.

o    Dealing with serial complainers? Invite them to turn their complaint into a proposal…it create energy & action!

o    Change won't happen with focus on behaviours alone. Behaviour = function of people & environment. What’s your bigger picture? [link to fish tank blog please]

o    We protect time in our diaries for our learning and growth. Do you?

o    Figure out your 'marginal gains' - the tiny achievable changes you could make as a leader.

o    The best way to validate a work or business objective is with your own values? If you don't believe in it, why do it?

One of things I love about learning is it is endless. We will continue to share some thoughts for you and we would love to hear some of yours, do please let us know….

What are some of your top tips?
What would you like to pay attention to from the above?
