I'm seeking to become accredited in a system that will help organisation's develop their 'leaders'. With so many different psychometrics out there can someone provide advise on their experience?
Cheers

which leadership development tool?
Hi Gus
This is a big one!
I am not sure that there is a ‘universal’ tool although many provide elements:
16PF, MBTI, FIRO-B, CPI, OPQ, NEO, 5 factor,
It depends which elements of leadership are important to you and the style of leadership you are looking to develop.
Do you want a psychometric or are you open to using profile/ instruments? for example LPI, Creatrix, SLII, Belbin, Mergerson McCann etc..
Can you give us a little more information to go on – or contact me, as I have used many over the years & will happily share my experiences.
Mike
follow on to leadership tools
I have replied to Gus off line but thought my reply may be of value to others:
There really is no single ‘best’ way to go it depends on the culture of the organisation you work in and where the organisation is going. All tools (and they are just that tools) have their place and can be used appropriately and inappropriately.
What are the strategic issues/ challenges for your organisation at the moment?
As this can help me point you in one direction or another? for example if you are new and go on a course to use psychometrics and have little credibility (i.e. no previous training is psychology) while the tools may be fine – your learning curve may cause you more dis-credit than credit.
On the other hand a simple ‘system’ may be narrow in nature but if you ‘follow the script’ then you could build a great reputation for yourself. Unfortunately one mistake many make in this industry is to have one tool and use it to death – i.e. beyond its real strengths. Any tool should be part of an appropriate tool kit, developed over time and built with need, skill and confidence.
