Stephanie Young, a member of the TrainingZONE Advisory Board, and the Director of Lifelong Learning for Scottish Enterprise Glasgow draws our attention to two innovative examples of web-delivered initiatives for learning in Glasgow.
"The DfEE, Campaign for Learning and ourselves have
surveyed individual attitudes and behaviours towards learning. These studies all show positive associations with the word 'learning', but less so with 'education' and 'training' and highlight the specific meanings associated with each word.
"In our work in Glasgow we have chosen not to use these words but to adopt a new 'brand' Real and to create the image and messages around that rather than try to change deep rooted feelings for the other images and words. The brand covers both our physical (community and business) and virtual learning environments.
There are two sites to explore both of which make extensive use of modern technology. IntoReal introduces the notion of Real Learning Centres and includes the Clyde Virtual University.
The Glasgow-learning.net site provides information, resources, and links for Glasgow - the learning city with sections aimed at individual learners, learning organisations, and learning professionals.
