Learning at Work day – 25 May 2000

default-16x9

Each year, the Campaign for Learning promotes a Learning at Work Day which this year is scheduled for 25 May as part of Adult Learning Week.

There will be events in workplaces across the country. Last year, more than 1,000 employers officially signed up, and many more became engaged in less formal ways.

The Day has the support of Dame Judi Dench: ' I am happy to support Learning at Work Day for the Campaign for Learning. I'm certain that, above all, learning should be fun. I think that learning at work is something that we probably think we all do, but sometimes we get stuck in a rut and, without realising it, forget to learn something new and different. It's good to ask questions, be inquisitive and learn things as we go about our daily business.'

In previous years there has also been an emphasis on job swaps. This year, chief executives are being encouraged to allow more junior staff to shadow them for the day in order to understand more of the senior role.

The job swapping part of Learning at Work Day isn't restricted to CEO's, however. A recent survey by totaljobs.com found that 84% of people would like to swap jobs for the day and in response to the findings they have joined forces with the Campaign for Learning to create a National Job Swap Day as part of the Learning at Work Day programme on May 25th.
