Has anybody any information on the culturally specific issues arising from the application of Honey and Mumfords learning style inventory in the teaching planning process for Afro-Caribean learners?

  1. Multi-cultural use
In previous companies, I have used the questionnaire with various non-UK groups to explore learning styles. Everyone seemed to still get some benefits, but in certain countries the education process meant that the norms did not match the UK. I used the shape and in-group discussion to explore these issues. Have you tried contacting Peter Honey to see if he has any Afro-Caribbean data? Jenny (CompAir)

  2. no – but would be interested in the answer
Have used HM a lot, I mean a lot!! But not noticeably with Afro-Caribeans. Would be seriously interested in any answers you find.

  3. Yes, Have used iin Trinidad & Tobago & Jamaica
No major differences in styles of learning and working- what was different were the behaviours. So for instance, when describing a Reflector or Activist, it is hlepful to think about their behaviours in certain work/home context. having a good understanidng of cultural context is very helpful e.g.power dynamics, respect for age and seniority etc. if you’d like to talk this through, please give me a call. Good Luck,
