UfI adopts IITT standards
-------------------------
Ufi has announced that suppliers to its learnDirect services will need to be demonstrate adoption of the IT standards accredited by the Institute of IT Training. This is a significant achievement for the Institute which is already working with several of the major e-learning companies, and is a step towards the use of consistent application protocols at UfI

Invitation to run online workshop and tutored courses
-----------------------------------------------------
As e-learning starts to take off, many training professionals are wondering just how to respond. Can they move their existing tutor material into the 'new economy'? Do they need to invest in complex web technology in order to take advantage of the 'global classroom'? The answer is "No". You can run online workshops and host online courses with your own material now and at no cost to you; you can then go on to earn fee income from online tutoring.

New resources from Peter Honey Publications
-------------------------------------------
Three significant new resources have been added to the output of Peter's publishing house. The output may be small, but the quality isn't and there are many HR professionals who await new titles with interest. These three are all written by different authors. 'Coaching for Managers' and 'Making 360 Degree Appraisal Work for You' both cover important subjects with strong topical interest. They provide solid practical advice and techniques to assist the manager in using these approaches to learning. You can read Leslie Rae's review at

Plenty more on learning organisations
-------------------------------------
And following hard on the heals of the earlier titles - not to mention the address from Peter Senge at HRD 2000 - is the brand new 'Learning Company Toolkit' written by Mike Pedler, John Burgoyne and Tom Boydell. Published just in time for the Learning Company Conference, these UK authors will need little introduction. Here is a folder full of 20 activities to make a reality of learning organisations. Look out for the review coming shortly.

Freelancers and the tax implications of IR35
--------------------------------------------
If you're self-employed - or you use self-employed contractors - you need to be aware of the tax implications of the new IR35 proposals. Contractors working primarily with just one or two clients, are likely to lose their self-employed status. We've drawn on the tax experts at our parallel community, AccountingWeb, to bring you a summary of all the latest news in this area.

HRD 2000 Preview #1
===================
HRD 2000 is the largest training conference and exhibition in Britain this year. Around 2,500 delegates are expected to attend the four day conference programme, and over 7,000 visitors will wander through the exhibition halls at Olympia over 4-6 April. Over the next three weeks, we will feature some of the events and stands so that you can decide whether to go and/or plan your visit.

The real highlight of the conference is likely to be the opening session with Peter Senge. Billed as three hours long, this session also opens the 29th IFTDO (International Federation of Training and Development Organisations) world conference. A highly respected author, Peter Senge's seminal works include 'The Fifth Discipline' and its accompanying 'Fieldbook' and his more recent 'The Dance of Change'
http://www.fieldbook.com

These books have helped shape thinking and practice around learning organisations and it is to this theme that Peter Senge will be returning in his keynote presentation. He will focus on the principles of learning organisations and the different ways in which learning can be empowered across a company. Watch the TrainingZone news pages for a live report immediately after the close of this session.

Full information about both the conference programme (including online booking) and the HRD 2000 exhibition is available at
