"Life coaching: connecting you to your inner wisdom" is the author’s experience and understanding of life coaching. Gina Harris explains the origins behind life coaching, the skills of a life coach, and the process of coaching. Ultimately, the book considers how to choose a coach, or perhaps to become a life coach.
In a straightforward fashion, the author uses quotations, experiences and stories to inspire the reader. This reinforces that the purpose of a coach is not to provide answers, but to allow the person being coached to look deeper into themselves to make decisions, and find a balance in life. The author recognises that lives have changed, and that our lives today are different from those of our grandparents or great-grandparents. A higher divorce rate, change in family values, and long hours culture, means that many of us are seeking a sense of belonging and purpose. By looking deep beyond the surface, life coaching could help the reader to explore and plan the right lifestyle, by decluttering and simplifying aspects of life.
To help the reader to choose a coach if wished, the author discusses the attributes of a good coach, who listens, questions, focuses and helps the person to decide their future. The author also provided cue cards, which helps the reader to focus on areas of their life.
The book is good, thought provoking and motivational, but is also self-promotional, although gives various contacts and hints should the reader decide to employ a life coach. It helped me to reflect on my life, and believe it is the first step for someone who wants to achieve a better life balance.
