Can anyone recommend inspirational speakers for a client who is in the Third sector? These would be for Lunch and Learn type sessions in London as part of a wider development programme - the client has a fairly low budget.
Looking to stimulate some thinking, increased motivation, personal development and new ideas. Would really appreciate your thoughts?
Best Wishes and thanks in advance ...
Margaret

Inspirational speakers
Hi Margaret
I would be interested in finding out a bit more about the requirements. I have done "lunch n learn" sessions for organisations, covering topics on work life balance, coaching skills for working parents, and coaching sessions forthe Prince’s Trust entrepreneurs on setting up their business ventures.
My work is more workshop/presentation based but great fun and very beneficial!!
Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing this more.

Inspirational Speaking slot
Hello Margaret,
I might be able to help in one of several ways:
1. I have a learning and development consultancy specialising in key areas of professional and personal development e.g. Organisational Communications, Interpersonal Communications, Public Speaking for the Terrified, Design and Deliver Dynamic Presentations, Train the Trainer, Move Beyond Your Comfort Zone etc. I frequently do guest speaking / workshops slots for groups / organisations e.g. Women in Management, Business Over Breakfast, Women in Rurual Enterprise, Women’s Business Development Agency. I could provide your client with a list of topics from which they could choose.
2. My academic interests combined with my altruistic side and lust for travel led me to take a "mid-life gap year" a few years ago. I volunteered with an NGO in South Africa helping women escape prostitution. I designed and delivered a personal development programme and spent several utterly fulfilling months there. I subsequently presented papers at three international conferences i.e. Uk, India and USA on "The role of lifelong learning in combatting social exclusion". I am still involved with the charity and fundraise on their behalf. If of interest, I could speak from either a personal or academic perspective or both.
3. I am an experienced public speaker and this summer achieved the highest award in the world of Toastmasters International i.e. Distinguished Toastmaster (the organisation helps people build their public speaking and leadership skills). There are a range of topics on which I could provide a session.
On a final note, I am often described as "a gutsy Irishwoman, with a great sense of fun."
As my website is currently being re-vamped it is not accessible for you to check me out. There is however, a partial profile on linkedin. References and testimonials can be provided.
Do feel free to email me on rita@insideoutlearning.co.uk or call me on 0845 862 0807 / 07766573571, if you think that I may be of interest to your client. I am based in the Midlands which makes travel to most locations relatively easy.
Kind regards,
Rita

Inspirational Speakers
Hello Margaret,
We at the College of Public Speaking have done extensive work in supporting Third Sector organisations with our ‘pro bono’ lunchtime and full day sessions. Would you be kind enough to put our name forward please?

what is an inspirational speaker
I recently attended a session with an inspirational speaker who turned out to be an ex serviceman who had lost one or both legs and then spent his entire talk telling us how he turned that into an opportunity to rip off organisations by charging them a fortune for giving inspirational talks.
Compare that to a 59yr old female who has type 1 diabetes who as a result of the condition has lost all sight, has two artificial hips and an artificial shoulder, is in constant pain from rheumatoid arthritis and has been unable to stand or walk since 2006. Despite all of that she gets around her bedroom in a wheelchair, has a computer with scanner and voice recognition software so deals with her own correspondence and enjoys a social life visiting friends, going for meals out and the occasional shopping trip – without charging organisations a fortune by telling them how good she is!
I know which I would describe as more inspirational I just wish that the executives who planned these things took a bit more notice, asked a few more questions and listened a bit more to what the grunts on the ground feel about what is inspirational – who knows they might actually save some money and out it to use benefiting their beneficiaries.
I should add that I support our armed services quite strongly being an active member of the Royal British Legion and an ex member of one of the auxiliary armed services myself.
what makes an inspiring speaker?
If they are in the Third Sector then they will have beneficiaries for their services – what about using one or more of them?? That really should inspire people about the work of the organisation!
If it doesn’t then is its work that worth while???

What a great range of responses to this question! I appreciate them all – some direct offers of help, some great recommendations and some challenge around what does inspirational really mean! I shouldn’t have expected anything less from this community!
I will be sharing this information with the client later this week and will let you know their response and maybe have more details on their exact requirements too.
Thanks again,
Margaret
