Watching our daughter Becca in the swimming pool on Saturday morning inspired me to write this week’s blog.
I saw her having so much fun, that I felt compelled to share it with you all.
Sitting up on the balcony (at Northgate Arena) I started thinking about the following:
- What are you doing in your life (or with your life) right now that is ‘making a splash’?
- If you’re not ‘making a splash’ at this moment, are you swimming along gently, making tiny little ripples as you go?
- If you’re not making tiny ripples, then do you feel like you’re treading water without necessarily getting anywhere?
In case you’re wondering how I came to have these thoughts whilst watching Becca swim, let me explain.
In the space of a 30 minute swimming lesson I watched Becca throw herself into the pool and energetically ‘have a go’ at each of the different tasks she was instructed to do. It was an absolute joy to watch.
Clearly competitive, she also wanted to be the first one to swim across the pool each time. I have no idea where she gets that competitive streak from!
Whilst Becca was loving every minute of her time in the water, there was a little boy in another group crying throughout.
I looked over to his mum and she had tears in her eyes. It was hurting her to watch her little boy sobbing away and shouting “mum” continuously.
As parents we sometimes make tough decisions for our kids. As adults we can have a tendency to shy away from those decisions for our own lives.
That brave little boy will thank his mum one day for making the decision for him to learn to swim.
When he’s dive bombing into the pool or surfing with his mates, he may even look back and laugh at those tearful moments.
So back to the questions I posed earlier in this blog:
Those of you ‘making a splash’ in your life: brilliant. You’re clearly having a lot of fun, achieving lots in your life and likely to be enjoying yourselves a little more than others. You have taken those decisions and are happy with the choices you have made.
Those of you making tiny little ripples as you go: that’s ok too. It’s ok because you may be striving for more or something may be holding you back. Ripples are good, but you definitely want to be ‘making a splash’ as well.
Those of you treading water right now: you have some decisions to make. You may be treading water whilst you wait for something to come along or for someone to help you out.
But ask yourself the question, what is stopping you from making your very own splash?
Whether you’re treading water, making tiny ripples or ‘making a splash’ , you have the potential to change your life into the one you want right now. None of us were born being able to swim, but many of us could swim the length of a swimming pool after 40 x 30 minute lessons.
Imagine where you could be if you gave yourself 20 hours focusing on something that made a splash!
Many thanks for reading this week’s blog
Have a great week and ‘make a splash’ in whatever you do…
Regards
Jeff
