Hi,
I am about to deliver management of attendance workshops to our employees - has anyone any fun exercises or innovative ideas/resources? I am using Fenman's Improving Attendance dvd - but typically I am never satisfied!
Thanks
Sarah

You are in for a challenge
In 2004 I delivered a ‘grasping the attendance nettle’ programme for line managers within the public services sector and unfortunately I did not improve attendance issues one little bit. Why? Many of the managers who attended the workshops had high absence records themselves and as they would open themselves up for criticism from their team members many just paid lip service to the training.
The middle managers were invited to attend the workshops so they could address the many line manager attendance issues but surprise, surprise they declined the invitation.
Sorry to be negative
Use actors
Hi Sarah.
We use actors to liven up attendance training. They role play the “absent” employee. Most delegates dislike role play but they love it when the actors get involved. The key for us is that the employees develop the skills and confidence to have those difficult coversations, in a fun interactive way. If you would like to know more give me a call.

exercises for attendance managment
Hi Sarah,
I use case studies. I trawled through the HR files and found the funny, the ridiculous and the everyday and put together case studies. The get loads of debate going and are very effective. The Fenman case studies are good too – have you got the ‘Forridge’ one? If you are stuck, drop me a line and I will email you one.

Rachel
