Microsoft report about their recent security scare

default-16x9

Microsoft have produced a report on their website covering the latest security incident whereby a hacker had managed to enter their computer system for around 12 days.

They state that they were aware of their illegal visitor and were tracking their attempts to expand user access to unauthorised areas of their network between the dates of 14 October to 25 October. Even though Microsoft are still investigating the incident, they are stating that no customers should have been affected by this intrusion.

Earlier reports stated that the hacker could have gained access to source code and confidential e-mails, however Microsoft report that there is no evidence that they have done so, and that this breach did not involve a security problem with any of Microsoft's products.

The hacker may have been able to view source code for a new product currently under construction, but they state that the code has not been modified or corrupted in any way. Microsoft are working with US law enforcement to identify the culprit and eventually take appropriate action.

The report then included some questions that concerned customers had been approaching Microsoft with and these can be found at Questions about preventing Network Intrusions
