Mileage V Car allowance

default-16x9

I need some help, there has been a request made by a number of employees to raise the amount of mileage we pay for staff using their own cars for business calls. On average they travel between 1000 and 5000 a year and we currently pay 40pence a mile. What I would like is some sort of comparative analysis with other organisations nationally. Not just in terms of mileage but maybe other models used i.e. car allowance etc. Does anyone know where i could obtain this information?

Kind Regards

  1. No idea really…but compared to Spain its good
I am not sure about what is allowed in the UK now.

Here in Spain you can charge / pay, up to 19 Euro Cent per KM and anything over that you pay is taxed, as it is seen as being “too much” and a source of income for the reciever.

I don’t think any ministers have run a car – he says having done about 5000km in the last month 🙁

Try the motoring organisations; AA. RAC, Green Flag or someof the bigger leasing companies, Lex etc

40p per mile is fairly standard…and there is a reason for it. Check out the HMRC Approved Mileage Rates at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/travel.htm
You can pay more but it is a lot of hassle for the organisation and for staff, and because the amount gets taxed it is hardly worth it.
