Evaluating e-learning? What is the basis for your evaluations?
Many people ask me to evaluate products or services for a particular learning need. While technical functionality is of great importance, I attach most emphasis to two other aspects – pedagogy and appropriateness of product/service to organisation needs and business requirements. Pedagogy is obviously of great importance – if it doesn’t enhance learning and make the impact of learning on performance more effective, it’s not much value. One issue many projects in development overlook, is also whether the product/service is the most appropriate for the organisation looking for a solution. In addition to cost, factors such as how well the software/platform articulates with existing technology/IT systems and how much internal support from training experts is required, are critical to take up. Anyone experienced issues such as these?
