New draft code for union learning reps

default-16x9

Acas, the employment relations service, has published a draft Code of Practice setting out new guidance for union learning reps. The Employment Act 2002 puts union learning reps on a statutory footing and the Code will enable employers and unions to put the provisions into practice.

Acas Chair Rita Donaghy said: "The recognition of union learning reps is an important step forward in giving people access to learning and skills through their workplaces. Acas welcomed the opportunity to work with the Department for Education and Skills in drawing up the Code. We hope the guidance is clear and helps employers and unions to comply fully with the new Act."

The Code – Time Off for Trade Union Duties and Activities – covers issues such as time off for learning activities and training to carry out the activities.
