Microsoft has launched its first certificate aimed at those working in IT support.

Alex Keay of Microsoft UK, said that the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) had been developed in response to a growing requirement for qualified helpdesk professionals.

The qualification covers the skills required for customer support, PC support and technical support.

Mr Keay said he believed it would, "simplify recruiting and hiring, providing the IT manager with the knowledge that staff have a consistent level of ability".

Microsoft learning solution partners Parity is said to be seeing considerable interest in the MCDST, primarily in the financial services and public sector areas.
